Farms Associated with the Vegettes :
In 1947, when Sam was 11/12, his family moved to Ufford – formerly Beaver’s Farm (so-named after the previous owner) to a farm now known as Ufford Farm. This farm was owned by John Slater a well-known Peterborough grain merchant, and Sam was his tenant, but Nick has since bought the farm which he farms in partnership with his mother. When Nick and Bridget married in 1999, they moved into a cottage in Ufford. In 1999, Milton Estates decided they would no longer farm Manor Farm Upton on their own account. Their farm manager Gordon Vincent and his wife Elaine lived in the house until summer of 2000AD, while Nick Vegette took on some of the land under a Farm Business Tenancy in July 2000. In December Nick and Bridget took on the tenancy of the actual farm house at Manor Farm Upton.
Farming
The Vegettes stopped the dairy and milk round at Ufford Farm in the 1950s. Until 1995 they farmed arable crops and suckler cows. They farm Ufford Farm and Manor Farm jointly with no animals, but with all “combinable crops”.
